  1. Teaching abroad is a valuable experience, but it is important to make sure that you are not taken advantage of. I had a lot of friends who were ESL teachers in HK who were making a very small proportion of what they were bringing in in revenue. Education is big business so make although most of us get into teaching for the love of it, don’t let anyone take advantage of you.

    • Hi Chris! Great advice! I feel like teachers are kinda conditioned to think that money doesn’t matter and that we should be selfless individuals who give up everything to help children. However, especially when you work internationally, there are no unions nor retirement plans to help out teachers. You have to be your own advocate and plan for your own retirement.
