I’m Still Alive

Mitad del Mundo

I haven’t even begun processing about 8 GB of pics from my DSLR, but I had this taken on my iphone 4s last week- Mitad del Mundo, Ecuador!

Hello Dear Readers!

Happy New Years! I know I am late… I also plan on doing some of those traditional new year type-y posts in the near future so you will just have to hang out in the time warp with me.

I would not be surprised to learn that nobody reads my blog anymore since I have basically let it run wild over the past three months while I haven’t had a computer. Unfinished and partial posts have posted that I had previously planned on finishing and I am sorry for that.  Sure, I managed to post a couple of things during that time, but I have been seriously slacking since my computer died.

I have missed blogging so much and I plan to get back on track ASAP.

This is just a quick note to those readers who are interested: I just got a refurbished MacBook Air today! Thanks to my lovely friend, Denise who brought it all the way to Venezuela from Montana for me, I can now begin posting on the blog again!!

If you have any tips or tricks for setting up my MacBook Air let me know.  I tried to restore files using Time Machine from my MacBook Pro with 500GB to my MB Air with only 256GB and I am feeling the pinch.  I’m trying to get stuff off of the machine and onto my external hard drive, but it will take time.  I am still getting situated since I’ve only had the Air for about five hours!

In case you have doubts about how much I have missed having a home computer let me tell you: I chose to begin setting up my new computer rather than get groceries after being gone for 3 weeks.  Thankfully I have some pasta and oatmeal so I haven’t starved yet. lol

I just spent three weeks in Ecuador visiting the Galapagos, Quito, Cuenca, Montanita, Otavalo, and Mindo so I have a lot of travel tales to share.  In fact, while I was away from my computer I kept a list of posts that I am planning on writing and I currently have about 30 post topics listed.  I will be writing and posting real posts soon!

Thank you for your patience.

    • Hi Laura. Thank you! I am so happy to be back!

I am still trying to find ways to save space on my laptop because I don’t even have enough space to open Photos. My photo library is too big! lol

Also, I realize now that my old external hard drive doesn’t have 3.0 capability so it wont work with time machine for me. Just signed up for Crashplan and I’m going to try to back up everything automatically online. This sounds like a perfect (though more expensive) solution after all of the computer problems I’ve had in Venezuela over the past 3.5 years!

      • I totally understand your storage frustrations Amanda. I have the same problem with video files – my Mac is full in an instant. I use an external drive to store my photo and footage files. I think mine is 2TB and still has so much room. It’s by a brand called Adata though I originally looked for a Lacie rugged drive which are said to be better. I found the trick was to create a second iPhoto library which is stored on the external drive so photos you want to store and edit using this application are done directly from the external drive and shouldn’t affect the function or storage of the Mac itself. Good luck!X
