These are the books that I used in my Book Spine Poem
Today I thought I would try a book spine poem with my third-grade students for our slices. Book spine poems are formed by choosing books around a theme or main idea and then arranging all or part of the titles into a poem. It is a fun way to start talking about poetry and a great way to get some of the kids writing instead of struggling to come up with an idea to write about.
I decided to write a little mystery poem for my students:
The Wizard’s Night Time Adventure
The Wizard
Parents Think I’m Sleeping
Voice from Afar
Something Sleeping in the Hall
Hello…
Thunder!
Invisible
Now one foot, now the other
Downstairs
The Midnight Ride
Home
Love your book spine poem! It tells a story. 🙂

I like it! I had not heard of a Book Spine Poem. I am hoping that we can use this with our students.

They really had fun with it! It helps that we have a large classroom library to choose from.

I am going to do this after our break – love this! And it’ll be National Poetry Month when we return, so perfect in so many ways! Thanks for the inspiration!

Awesome, Amanda! I enjoyed reading this! I had my HS students write a found poem earlier this month, which includes a similar concept for writing poetry. Cool!

Thanks! I did a found poem with my students last year and it was a big hit. I will have to have them do it next month. Thanks for the reminder!
