RIP MacBook Pro

I was so excited to get my new solid state drive (SSD) from OWC!

It arrived in Valencia a couple of days after ordering it.  Then it sat in customs.  Then it was shuffled from one FedEx office to another.  Finally, it arrived at my school thanks to some daily calls from the receptionist in the office who knows how the system works.

I paid for the hard drive + international shipping + $20 in customs fees which equals out to about $300 US.  I thought fixing the problem would be better than replacing my laptop.  I found a video on the OWC that clearly showed me how to install the SSD so I was ready to do the installation once it arrived.

Sadly, I chose to ignore my tech friend’s warning that if it isn’t a problem with the SSD that it could be a problem with the motherboard.

I got to the part where it said my restore was successful, and all I needed to do was restart, and then upon restarting I was back to square one!

Despite a flawless installation (lol, it really was very straightforward- I’m not that cool), the computer continued to have the same problem as before! It still only recognizes the hard drive every other time.

What hard drive?

What hard drive?

I just need a new laptop.  I also happen to live in a country (Venezuela) where they are hard to find.   I have never seen one for sale in a mall in the three plus years that I’ve been in this country.  Everyone I ask says they got their computer from the US and either had it shipped down or brought it over themselves.

All of this is to say that until I can figure out how to get a new laptop, I will probably not be posting as much on the blog because I don’t like typing on my iphone or ipad.  Now and then I can come in early or leave late from work to use the computers at school, but it isn’t ideal either.

If you happen to know of a good place to find laptops in Valencia, a trustworthy shipping company to get computers safely through customs, or someone willing to carry a laptop for me back from the US, please let me know!
